Prevalence of trachoma is patchy throughout Asia and the Western Pacific. Fourteen countries in these regions are considered endemic, although there is insufficient data to generate reliable estimates of disease burden in many countries. Improved data may significantly impact estimates of global disease burden due to the large population in China and India. Several additional countries which lack data are suspected to be formerly endemic or have insignificant levels of disease (Laos and Pacific Island nations of Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru and Vanuatu).
