The geographical distribution of trachoma is patchy in the Middle East, and several formerly endemic countries have reached or are nearing elimination targets. These countries include Iran, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (ITDFE summary 101210). There remains insufficient data to generate reliable estimates of disease burden in other Middle Eastern countries, including Iraq and Yemen.
